As part of our product creation team, the Senior Product Developer - Outerwear is expected to lead in their key projects and category.  As the senior developer for outerwear within the apparel development group, you must have advanced knowledge in the total product development process, including seam taping development, testing & commercialization, as well as insulated products. Bringing a level excellence of into the development process from concept to commercialization/ production, functioning as the technical and business resource. Alongside the Development Manager, you will be expected to foster this knowledge throughout the development team and your direct report(s). 
   
In this role you will also be tasked with the managing, engineering of prototypes through production ready. You will be working with various product creation groups (technical services, design, innovation team, overseas factories, etc.) to drive the technical package process and ensure products meet or exceed our quality standards.  This role is responsible for generating and communicating ideas regarding the overall performance and value of our products to our manufacturing resources.

You will:
•    Be expected to support the growth of peers in the development process; mentoring & leading on process improvements, software updates, and technical specification excellence.
•    Ability to manage and lead multiple projects from brief stage through design, development, and start of production, including leading direct reports (if applicable)
•    Create and manage technical packages to assure documentation is current and production ready.
•    Display an in-depth knowledge of the outerwear apparel manufacturing process (seam taping, insulation both down & synthetic, etc.) with the ability to manipulate/ engineer the process in order to advance and achieve new manufacturing techniques which enhance the overall performance of product and to create production ready products.
•    Partner & collaborate with designers, technical services & overseas partners to ensure product execution
•    Plan and execute project development according to the seasonal critical dates that lead to on–time delivery of samples and production confirmation.  
•    Proven track record of critiquing, adjusting and evaluating design concepts and prototypes from a performance, manufacturing, and functional perspective
•    Partner with development, product team and design to ensure that designs are manufacture able, meet cost and quality objectives of the organization
•    Review, document and communicate changes, test results and requirements of samples to our factory resources.
•    Travel to Asia to work with manufacturers and suppliers on current and future development projects
•    Must show a strong ability to communicate and implement process improvement plans at both the factory level & internal creation team level.
•    Have an understanding and ability to course correct projects that fall off calendar. Create and communicate a plan for these situations that outlines in details the needs of the specific project.  This includes mentoring peers and direct reports (if applicable)

Bring your passion and expertise

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel Development, or like fields is preferred 
•    6+ years’ experience in the product development of outdoor apparel including product specification, garment fitting, technical illustration, pattern & grading.  
•    Advanced knowledge of product development for outerwear and manufacturing experience
•    Current computer hardware and software proficiency - MS Office suite; Outlook, Word, Excel, ext.
•    In depth experience taken consumer goods to market; from concept to manufacturing, including project management against a timeline
•    Mastered specification documentation, technical illustration - Adobe Illustrator
•    Experience with PLM/ PDM systems preferred
•    Excellent verbal and written skills
•    Accurate, detailed and highly organized work methods
•    Excellent analytical thinking and problem solving skills related to product physical design, construction and production
•    Proven innovative thinking and the ability to use sound judgment to resolve problems. 
•    Self-directed with ability to manage individual work load priorities and relate to overall needs of the team, with the ability to work professionally and efficiently with all departments that make up REI
•    Ability to anticipate how a decision made can affect our customers, our strategic partners, other departments and the product in general – always looking out for what is best for our end consumer
•    Willingness to go above and beyond by diving into the details, improving products and processes and helping out whenever necessary
•    A passion for the outdoors, creating products and living our values
•    Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals.
•    Consolidates information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisions.
•    Executes effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress toward goals.
•    Challenges the status quo, champions change and influences others to change. Through mentoring and proven on time development.
•    Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally, around 25% of the year or as needed. (trade shows, insights, Asia development)
•    3+ years traveling and working with foreign manufactures. Time in Asia preferred

ARTICLE 23-A, Section 753
LICENSURE AND EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONS PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED OF ONE OR MORE CRIMINAL OFFENSES

§753. Factors to be considered concerning a previous criminal conviction; presumption.

1. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall consider the following factors:

(a) The public policy of this state, as expressed in this act, to encourage the licensure and employment of persons previously convicted of one or more criminal offenses.

(b) The specific duties and responsibilities necessarily related to the license or employment sought or held by the person.

(c) The bearing, if any, the criminal offense or offenses for which the person was previously convicted will have on his fitness or ability to perform one or more such duties or responsibilities.

(d) The time which has elapsed since the occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(e) The age of the person at the time of occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(f) The seriousness of the offense or offenses.

(g) Any information produced by the person, or produced on his behalf, in regard to his rehabilitation and good conduct.

(h) The legitimate interest of the public agency or private employer in protecting property, and the safety and welfare of specific individuals or the general public.

2. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall also give consideration to a certificate of relief from disabilities or a certificate of good conduct issued to the applicant, which certificate shall create a presumption of rehabilitation in regard to the offense or offenses specified therein.
