The Payroll Manager is responsible for timely and accurate payroll processing for 14,000+ employees throughout the U.S. in a multi-state environment. The Payroll Manager initiates policies and procedures to insure the integrity of Payroll operations and works closely with staff and other business partners to respond to all payroll needs. Reviews and monitors all Payroll related processes and procedures and responds to, or directs responses to, payroll related questions and requests in a large scale corporate environment.   • Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages
  • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results. Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements
  • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions
  • Conducts and ensures the completion of quarterly performance and goal conversations
  • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results 
  • Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances and issues, and takes appropriate action
  • Remains current in functional and industry trends, and applies best practices to advance departmental and company goals
  • Plans and manages payroll and payroll tax workload in a SaaS payroll system environment, including integration of timekeeping systems data 
  • Hires, trains and develops Payroll staff
  • Oversees and works closely with bi-weekly and off-cycle payroll functions and process to ensure accuracy in the reporting, generation, and timely distribution of employee paychecks, including all wage adjustments and bonuses
  • Ensures adherence to REI’s payroll policies and procedures and keeps these updated
  • Ensures all periodic federal and state Payroll tax deposits, tax reporting, W-2’s, etc. are processed timely and accurately, as required in SaaS environment
  • Ensures compliance with all federal and state regulatory reporting requirements
  • Works closely with HR, HRIS and IT personnel on developing processes and system requirements that ensure accuracy of payroll processing and internal controls for maintenance of Payroll
  • Assists in the completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual Payroll G/L accounts reconciliations
  • Coordinates and implements the payroll and tax data setup for new locations, as required in SaaS environment
  • Manages the set-up and ensures proper processing of 3rd party deductions, as required in SaaS environment
  • Manages file uploads and reconciliations, balancing and troubleshooting issues
  • Researches new payroll regulations and takes necessary steps to implement changes across organization
  • Leads or contributes to Payroll, Finance and cross-divisional projects which have payroll and/or timekeeping implications
  • Serves as liaison with other key departments and locations for resolution of payroll problems

Bring your passion and expertise

  • 5+ Years of overall payroll experience with in-house payroll processing and/or SaaS payroll systems in a high volume, multi-state environment
  • 2+ years of previous payroll management or supervisory experience in a mid to large corporate environment
  • Complete understanding and practical application of payroll processing, payroll systems, payroll accounting and payroll tax Strong knowledge of time and attendance systems and their integration to payroll systems
  • Proficient in federal, state, and local employment statutory requirements related to pay, wage and hour, health and welfare, and multi-state payroll tax
  • Certified Payroll Professional 4 year Accounting or Finance degree Ultipro or other SaaS payroll system experience

ARTICLE 23-A, Section 753
LICENSURE AND EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONS PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED OF ONE OR MORE CRIMINAL OFFENSES

§753. Factors to be considered concerning a previous criminal conviction; presumption.

1. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall consider the following factors:

(a) The public policy of this state, as expressed in this act, to encourage the licensure and employment of persons previously convicted of one or more criminal offenses.

(b) The specific duties and responsibilities necessarily related to the license or employment sought or held by the person.

(c) The bearing, if any, the criminal offense or offenses for which the person was previously convicted will have on his fitness or ability to perform one or more such duties or responsibilities.

(d) The time which has elapsed since the occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(e) The age of the person at the time of occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(f) The seriousness of the offense or offenses.

(g) Any information produced by the person, or produced on his behalf, in regard to his rehabilitation and good conduct.

(h) The legitimate interest of the public agency or private employer in protecting property, and the safety and welfare of specific individuals or the general public.

2. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall also give consideration to a certificate of relief from disabilities or a certificate of good conduct issued to the applicant, which certificate shall create a presumption of rehabilitation in regard to the offense or offenses specified therein.
