The Manager of Product Management is critical in growing and maturing REI’s Product Development practice for all of the Adventure Projects properties in Boulder, CO.  Adventure Projects is a small team within REI that builds sites and apps for rock climbers, mountain bikers, hikers, trail runners and skiers. We’re passionate about getting outside and using the tools we build to help guide our adventures, which can start right out the office door.

Our small product team handles everything from product strategy to design to infrastructure, web development, and mobile app development. We’re self-motivated and excited about the opportunities and challenges that come with working on a small team. We build and iterate quickly and push code multiple times a day, as we create products that our users are passionate about.

Planning & Navigating:

  • Deliver the full product lifecycle from concept to execution and measurement to continue to evolve and grow the full suite of Adventure Projects websites and apps.
  • Work with cross-divisional partners at REI to bring together all of the Adventure Projects data + Camping into a core part of the REI Experiences offering that includes paid multi-day and single day paid trips plus classes and events. 
  • Oversees the day to day implementation of product features, by leading a team of engineers accountable for defining and prioritizing digital capabilities.
  • Manages a portfolio of investments and ensures those investments are prioritized to maximize benefit to REI customers and members.
  • Ensures the portfolio aligns with and delivers on REI’s digital strategy across multiple divisions.
  • Measures and reports on the results of investments, and tracks analytics across the portfolio.
  • Gathers user feedback and voice of customer data.
  • Builds a deep understanding of the competitive landscape.
  • Develops and maintains strong professional relationships with key individual stakeholders and partner teams throughout REI, including the Information Technology team supporting REI's digital touch points.
  • Partners with divisional leaders from IT, Marketing, Merchandising, Customer Support, Adventure Travel, and Retail to ensure balanced support for corporate initiatives.

  • Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the organization promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
  • Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote REI key messages.
  • Challenges and inspires employees to achieve business results.
  • Ensures employees adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
  • Oversees training and development of employees directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
  • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
  • Provides coaching, direction, and leadership support to employees in order to achieve department, company and customer results.
  • Establishes and maintains visibility within the department.
  • Monitors operational statistics, reports trends, variances, and issues, and takes appropriate action.

Bring your passion and expertise

  • 7+ years of related experience in product management
  • 5+ years or equivalent experience leading product development and digital strategy
  • 2+ years building, and Managing a team of engineers
  • Expertise with multiple project methodologies; agile methodologies in particular.
  • Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities.
  • Experience with the management of multiple stakeholders with competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of project management principles.
  • Demonstrated experience and measurable results in continuous process improvement.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in business administration, marketing or related field.
  • Builds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts.
  • Creates a strong, mutually supportive work spirit and culture where people can do their best.
  • Establishes trust and inspires others.
  • Makes effective organization and people decisions in a manner consistent with REI's values and ethics.

ARTICLE 23-A, Section 753

§753. Factors to be considered concerning a previous criminal conviction; presumption.

1. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall consider the following factors:

(a) The public policy of this state, as expressed in this act, to encourage the licensure and employment of persons previously convicted of one or more criminal offenses.

(b) The specific duties and responsibilities necessarily related to the license or employment sought or held by the person.

(c) The bearing, if any, the criminal offense or offenses for which the person was previously convicted will have on his fitness or ability to perform one or more such duties or responsibilities.

(d) The time which has elapsed since the occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(e) The age of the person at the time of occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(f) The seriousness of the offense or offenses.

(g) Any information produced by the person, or produced on his behalf, in regard to his rehabilitation and good conduct.

(h) The legitimate interest of the public agency or private employer in protecting property, and the safety and welfare of specific individuals or the general public.

2. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall also give consideration to a certificate of relief from disabilities or a certificate of good conduct issued to the applicant, which certificate shall create a presumption of rehabilitation in regard to the offense or offenses specified therein.
