REI is seeking a Senior Front End Engineer for our new Cycle Customer Experience team. The ideal candidate will excel at work in an agile, highly collaborative environment, quickly respond to customer issues, and build/enhance customer facing capabilities. The goal of this new team is to make it easy for customers to find the right bike or cycling gear, learn about how to use their bike and get out on the road or trail! An entrepreneurial mindset, a passion for understanding customer needs and the ability to quickly adapt to customer and business feedback are crucial for this role. Experience working with both customer-facing systems as well as retail back-end systems are highly desirable for this role.

  • Responsible for solving highly technical and complex problems on multiple projects.
  • Collaborates closely with technology and product leadership, Site Reliability, QA, and other Product teams to orchestrate medium to large scale development efforts
  •  Strong ability to work in a close-knit, collaborative team environment.
  • Promotes culture of learning, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provides technical guidance to ensure implemented solutions are working effectively and proposed solutions will meet the organization’s future needs.
  • Analyzes, designs, develops, implements, documents, and maintains applications, working on highly complex work tasks or project assignments.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and translates business and non-functional requirements into a solution design.
  • Designs, develops to specification and maintains application code in accordance with the current architecture principles, development and project management methodologies and practices. Conducts technical walkthroughs with software engineers to ensure technical feasibility and standards across teams.
  • Formulates systems scope and objectives and resolves highly complex technical issues.
  • Acts as a mentor and source for direction, training, and guidance for less experienced departmental staff.
  • Ability to set effective work goals, establish priorities, and plan well to produce quality work.
  • Helps technical managers refine the hiring process, participates in hiring activities, and helps to onboard new team members.
  • Challenges the status quo, champions change and influences others to change
  • Participates in on-call rotation for 24x7 service requirement in support of business and customer experience
  • Performs all duties of a Sr. Software Engineer as time allows after considering the above.

Bring your passion and expertise

  • 5+ years engineering experience with large-scale applications

  • Experience working for a large (5000+ employees) retail company preferred
  • Experience creating and executing implementation strategies for complex systems.
  • Ability to apply highly complex principles, theories and concepts of the technical discipline and provide solutions to a wide range of complex tasks, projects and problems
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency with systems, processes and development, or technical disciplines in a specific field
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotation for 24x7 service requirement and in a CI/CD dev ops environment
  • Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals.
  • Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities.
  • Executes effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress toward goals.
  • Clearly conveys and accurately receives information by a variety of methods and in various situations.
  • Challenges the status quo, champions change and influences others to change.

Technologies and Skills You May Use Include:

  • Related front-end frameworks, tools and bundlers (currently we use JavaScript, Vue.js, NPM, Node.js, WebPack, Rollup, Mocha, Chai, to name a few)
  • AWS and cloud technologies, Terraform
  • Building and deploying full-stack web applications, microsite/service frameworks in a CI/CD environment
  • Build tools: Maven, Jenkins
  • Tools: Git, IntelliJ, New Relic, Grafana, Kibana
  • Platforms: AWS, Docker, SQL, MongoDB, Apache Solr
  • Container orchestration systems: Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, etc.
  • Methodologies: Agile, DevOps, Kanban, continuous planning

As required by applicable Pay Transparency laws, REI provides a range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in locations under these requirements. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include a wide array of factors, including: your specific skills and experience, geographic location or other relevant factors. The salary range for this position may be lower or higher in different markets.

The pay for this role is: $75,000 to $147,500 per year

ARTICLE 23-A, Section 753

§753. Factors to be considered concerning a previous criminal conviction; presumption.

1. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall consider the following factors:

(a) The public policy of this state, as expressed in this act, to encourage the licensure and employment of persons previously convicted of one or more criminal offenses.

(b) The specific duties and responsibilities necessarily related to the license or employment sought or held by the person.

(c) The bearing, if any, the criminal offense or offenses for which the person was previously convicted will have on his fitness or ability to perform one or more such duties or responsibilities.

(d) The time which has elapsed since the occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(e) The age of the person at the time of occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(f) The seriousness of the offense or offenses.

(g) Any information produced by the person, or produced on his behalf, in regard to his rehabilitation and good conduct.

(h) The legitimate interest of the public agency or private employer in protecting property, and the safety and welfare of specific individuals or the general public.

2. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall also give consideration to a certificate of relief from disabilities or a certificate of good conduct issued to the applicant, which certificate shall create a presumption of rehabilitation in regard to the offense or offenses specified therein.
