Job Title: Senior Software Engineer

Location:  REI; City: Sumner; State: Washington. Telecommuting within normal commuting distance of Seattle, WA is required, with at least monthly in-person meetings at Seattle-area REI offices.

Job Description: Design, develop, implement, document and maintain software systems applications that support REI’s website functionality. Perform software development through full project lifecycle including gathering, analyzing and translating business and nonfunctional requirements into a solution design; defining business requirements and technical solutions, managing tasks, estimating resources, and prioritizing work. May lead meetings to define business requirements and technical solutions. Design, develop to specifications and maintain application code in accordance with the current development and project management methodologies and practices. Prepare required documentation for the portion of work assigned. Review test plans established by Quality Assurance and business analysts to ensure they are being developed and executed properly. Provide technical assistance and problem resolution for assigned systems. Lead resolution of production support problems in accordance with problem management policies and procedures. Lead resolution of production support incidents in accordance with incident management policies and procedures. Coordinate with vendors for problem resolution and change requests. Ensure that applications changes follow change management policies and procedures. Provide technical guidance to ensure that installed systems are working effectively and that proposed systems will meet organization’s future needs. Prepare periodic and ad hoc status reports for each assignment for department manager and project manager. Identify and provide recommendations for system process improvements. May act as a source for direction, training and guidance for less experienced departmental staff. Participate in on-call rotation for 24X7 service. Telecommuting within normal commuting distance of Seattle, WA is required, with at least monthly in-person meetings at Seattle-area REI offices.

Bring your passion and expertise

Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or the foreign degree equivalent; and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience implementing software solutions using Java. This must include following: 5 years of experience performing software development through the full project lifecycle including analysis, design, development, review, deployment, and support; 5 years of experience preparing documentation for existing systems; 5 years of experience creating unit tests; and 3 years of experience designing, building, and maintaining backend e-commerce applications. Must be willing and able to participate in on-call rotation for 24X7 service. Experience may be gained concurrently.

ARTICLE 23-A, Section 753
LICENSURE AND EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONS PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED OF ONE OR MORE CRIMINAL OFFENSES

§753. Factors to be considered concerning a previous criminal conviction; presumption.

1. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall consider the following factors:

(a) The public policy of this state, as expressed in this act, to encourage the licensure and employment of persons previously convicted of one or more criminal offenses.

(b) The specific duties and responsibilities necessarily related to the license or employment sought or held by the person.

(c) The bearing, if any, the criminal offense or offenses for which the person was previously convicted will have on his fitness or ability to perform one or more such duties or responsibilities.

(d) The time which has elapsed since the occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(e) The age of the person at the time of occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(f) The seriousness of the offense or offenses.

(g) Any information produced by the person, or produced on his behalf, in regard to his rehabilitation and good conduct.

(h) The legitimate interest of the public agency or private employer in protecting property, and the safety and welfare of specific individuals or the general public.

2. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall also give consideration to a certificate of relief from disabilities or a certificate of good conduct issued to the applicant, which certificate shall create a presumption of rehabilitation in regard to the offense or offenses specified therein.
