REI’s Procurement Organization is transforming how procurement is done at every level to dramatically improve the customer experience and enable business outcomes. To enable this transformation, REI is hiring a Sourcing and Vendor Partner to support REI’s Technology business unit. This job will contribute to REI’s success by executing vendor management strategies and sourcing requests in accordance with strategies established in collaboration with business partners and category managers. It drives continuous improvement of processes that deliver value and manage risk.

To the extent possible, the Sourcing and Vendor Partners will be specialists in their specific categories, which for this role will be the Technology category. At times they may be asked to support other categories by executing standard sourcing and vendor management practices with support of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and/or other team members or business partners.

A successful Sourcing and Vendor Partner at REI: 

  • Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission
  • Acts as primary point of contact with leadership for key vendor relationships
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with their peers, managers, suppliers, and executive teams at REI, including its Chief Technology Officer and Chief Financial Officer
  • Manages all sourcing and vendor management activities for key vendor partners
  • Provides sourcing consultation support for non-managed vendor partners
  • Defines sourcing strategies for category plans, key vendor partners, and for contracts generally valued over $250k and up to $30M
  • Negotiates terms and conditions for contracts for key vendor partners, and for contracts generally valued over $250k and up to $30M and/or with risk complexities requiring additional consideration
  • Performs data-driven analysis to formulate negotiation strategies that will drive value (cost reduction, risk mitigation, innovation, process improvement)
  • Aligns sourcing requests to business strategies, growth agendas, and category plans Improves and implements vendor management tools and principles
  • Formalizes the collection and development of supplier scorecards to support regular business reviews for managed partners, and providing tools and guidance to enable self-service for similar activities with non-managed vendors
  • Manages supplier relationships to ensure REI sourcing needs are met, optimize investment and savings, improve performance and drive innovation/continuous improvement Identifies and communicating supplier relationship and business status
  • Facilitates interactions among Finance, InfoSec, Category Management, Legal and Business owners for alignment of budgets, objectives, risks, strategies and tactics.
  • Supports risk analysis to identify issues and develop risk mitigation strategies; communicating risks and strategies to stakeholders
  • Drives engagement with business partners and are seen as value-added cross-functional team members
  • For specific categories, creating category management plans. In other instances, executing category plans developed by the Category Management Team
  • Tracks the competitive landscape (through web, consultants and research organizations) and presenting suppliers for project consideration to business owners
  • Manages the sourcing process through RFx (Request for Proposal/Information/Quote) or direct negotiation; providing evaluation framework, and selection recommendations
  • Shares and celebrates continuous learning; Seeing failure as opportunity for unlocking future value.
  • Identifies and executes process improvement opportunities through Great Operators (Lean) Mindset
  • Manages time as a valuable, non-renewable resource by prioritizing level of effort and customer expectations; able to manage ambiguity and reduce its impact. Executes effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress toward goals
  • Assists with risk analysis to identify issues (financial, operational and/or regulatory) and developing risk mitigation strategies; communicating risks and strategies to stakeholders
  • Manages administrative processes and activity reporting as needed to support projects
  • Supporting other business-related activities as directed by management
  • Operates in accordance with the applicable standard operating framework of the role


Bring your passion and expertise
Preferred experience: 

  • 5-7 years purchasing, vendor management and sourcing experience or operational subject matter expertise in Technology, Marketing or Supply Chain categories preferred 
  •  Yellow or Green belt training preferred. Understands and leverages LEAN methodology to continuously improve customer value. 
  • Certified Sourcing Professional (CSP), Certified Supplier Management Professional (CSMP), Certified Third Party Risk Management Professional (CTPRMP), and Certified Intelligent Automation Professional (CIAP) or similar certification preferred 
  • 3-5 years of sourcing strategy development, contract negotiation, contract analysis, and contract drafting skills in Technology, Marketing or Supply Chain categories with risk-appropriate guidance and consultation from team members and/or Legal staff. 
  • 3-5 years of supplier relationships management to maximize benefits of partnerships. 
  • 5-7 years of data analytics 
  • Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals 
  • Flexible in one's viewpoints and positions in order to support the direction taken by others at REI 
  • Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities
  • Consolidates information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisions 
  • Considers the ultimate impact of decisions and actions on internal and external customers 
  • Works smart by setting effective work goals, establishing priorities, and planning well in order to produce quality work. Executes effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress toward goals 
  • Clearly conveys and accurately receives information by a variety of methods and in various situations 
  • Builds rapport with all kinds of people inside and outside the organization 
  • Acts upon opportunities and involves and influences others in the accomplishment of worthwhile organizational goals

Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include a wide array of factors, including: your specific skills and experience, geographic location or other relevant factors. 

The pay for this role is: $83700 - $134000 per year .

ARTICLE 23-A, Section 753
LICENSURE AND EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONS PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED OF ONE OR MORE CRIMINAL OFFENSES

§753. Factors to be considered concerning a previous criminal conviction; presumption.

1. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall consider the following factors:

(a) The public policy of this state, as expressed in this act, to encourage the licensure and employment of persons previously convicted of one or more criminal offenses.

(b) The specific duties and responsibilities necessarily related to the license or employment sought or held by the person.

(c) The bearing, if any, the criminal offense or offenses for which the person was previously convicted will have on his fitness or ability to perform one or more such duties or responsibilities.

(d) The time which has elapsed since the occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(e) The age of the person at the time of occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(f) The seriousness of the offense or offenses.

(g) Any information produced by the person, or produced on his behalf, in regard to his rehabilitation and good conduct.

(h) The legitimate interest of the public agency or private employer in protecting property, and the safety and welfare of specific individuals or the general public.

2. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall also give consideration to a certificate of relief from disabilities or a certificate of good conduct issued to the applicant, which certificate shall create a presumption of rehabilitation in regard to the offense or offenses specified therein.
