The Senior Data Scientist, Marketing is a creative and passionate problem-solver who thinks big, understands the details, acts quickly, and is motivated to develop new approaches to optimizing REI’s business using statistical methods, machine learning algos, and cutting-edge technology. The role requires strong experience solving difficult Marketing and interrelated and interdependent opportunities. The role will deliver real improvements and will have a solid understanding of the downstream consequences that upstream process changes can have. Models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission.


As a Senior Data Scientist, Marketing, will you:

  • Opportunities and problems are somewhat ambiguous or semi-structured. Defines problem and method approach as part of a team.
  • Influences specific teams and products. Works closely with product and business teams. Able to build consensus. Advises Sr. Manager/Director levels. Actively mentors/develops others.
  • Problems are complex to solve, approached with an understanding of the interactions among software systems, data, and processes. Ability to select an ideal solution from a wide range of data science methodologies.
  • Takes the lead on medium to large projects, requiring both business and technical domain knowledge and expertise. Delivers significant benefit to business.
  • Successfully launches data science solutions for the business with minimal assistance.
  • Drives scientific understanding and changes in related systems. Makes technical trade-offs for long term/short-term needs.

Bring your passion and expertise

  • MS + 4 years’ experience or BS + 8 years’ experience
  • 5+ years’ experience implementing large scale end-to-end marketing programs
  • Experience working with raw and prepared data sources in a variety of RDBMS systems (Snowflake, Oracle, TeraData, Redshift etc) and NoSQL environments such as Hadoop, Spark, Athena
  • Knowledge of and experience working within cloud computing environments such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Fluency with statistical and machine learning algorithms such as decision trees, neural networks, collaborative filtering, clustering, survival analysis, graph theory, etc.
  • Understands challenges in business area, applicability of relevant data science disciplines, and system interactions.
  • Ability to successfully communicate ideas and sell strategic plans to senior executives while influencing adoption and successful implementation
  • Able to keep others current on current scientific advancements.
  • Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals
  • Uses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities.
  • Executes effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress toward goals.
  • Consolidates information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisions.
  • Clearly conveys and accurately receives information by a variety of methods and in various situations.
  • Acts upon opportunities and involves and influences others in the accomplishment of worthwhile organizational goals.

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, REI provides a range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include a wide array of factors, including: your specific skills and experience, geographic location or other relevant factors. The salary range for this position may be lower or higher in different markets.

$95,000 to $200,000 per year

ARTICLE 23-A, Section 753
LICENSURE AND EMPLOYMENT OF PERSONS PREVIOUSLY CONVICTED OF ONE OR MORE CRIMINAL OFFENSES

§753. Factors to be considered concerning a previous criminal conviction; presumption.

1. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall consider the following factors:

(a) The public policy of this state, as expressed in this act, to encourage the licensure and employment of persons previously convicted of one or more criminal offenses.

(b) The specific duties and responsibilities necessarily related to the license or employment sought or held by the person.

(c) The bearing, if any, the criminal offense or offenses for which the person was previously convicted will have on his fitness or ability to perform one or more such duties or responsibilities.

(d) The time which has elapsed since the occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(e) The age of the person at the time of occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(f) The seriousness of the offense or offenses.

(g) Any information produced by the person, or produced on his behalf, in regard to his rehabilitation and good conduct.

(h) The legitimate interest of the public agency or private employer in protecting property, and the safety and welfare of specific individuals or the general public.

2. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall also give consideration to a certificate of relief from disabilities or a certificate of good conduct issued to the applicant, which certificate shall create a presumption of rehabilitation in regard to the offense or offenses specified therein.
