The role of the Product Development Engineer, Gear is vital to the product creation team. You will be responsible for the execution of the innovation behind the designs; working with the Design Team to capture the creative intent of the product. You will serve as an integral liaison among the Development staff working on all Private Brand projects, as needed from concept to commercialization/ production creating and providing the engineering power to drive the progression of our products. In this role you are responsible for the managing and engineering of prototypes through confirmation samples. You will be working with various production creation groups (technical services, design, innovation team, overseas factories, etc.) to drive the technical package process and ensure products meet or exceed our quality standards. This role is responsible for generating and communicating ideas regarding the overall performance and value of our products to our manufacturing resources.

Apply engineering support for designated projects.
Ability to manage multiple projects from Brief stage through Design, Development, and start of Production.
Create and manage Technical Packages to assure documentation is current and production ready.
Generation of 3D models of multi part assemblies. Creation of 2D technical drawings for parts needed for Private Brand products.
In-depth knowledge of injection molding, metal fabrication, cut and sew, and cold form molding processes.
Full knowledge of the manufacturing process with the ability to manipulate/ engineer the process in order to advance and achieve new manufacturing techniques.
Plan and execute project development according to the seasonal critical dates that lead to on–time delivery of samples and production confirmation.
Partner with design, development, and product team personnel to ensure that designs are manufacture able and meet cost and quality objectives of the organization
Ability to critique, adjust and evaluate design concepts and prototypes from a performance, manufacturing, and functional perspective
Review, document and communicate changes, test results and requirements of samples to our factory resources.
Travel to Asia to work with manufacturers and suppliers on current and future development projects
Study and understand the REI product development cycles to coordinate with material development and testing validation so that timelines for commercialization are achieved.

Bring your passion and expertise

•         5+ years’ experience in the product development of outdoor equipment and/ or gear
•         Advanced knowledge of product development and manufacturing experience
•         Current computer hardware and software proficiency - MS Office suite; Outlook, Word, Excel, ect.
•         Experience with product specification documentation, technical illustration - Adobe Illustrator
•         Experience with CAD and PLM/ PDM systems
•         Excellent verbal and written skills
•         Accurate, detailed and highly organized work methods
•         Excellent analytical thinking and problem solving skills related to product physical design, construction and production
•         Innovative thinking and the ability to use sound judgment to resolve problems preferred
•         Self-directed with ability to manage individual work load priorities and relate to overall needs of the team
•         Ability to work professionally and efficiently with all departments that make up REI
•         Ability to anticipate how a decision made can affect our customers, our strategic partners, other departments and the product in general – always looking out for what is best for our end consumer “it’s all about the product”
•         Willingness to go above and beyond by diving into the details, improving products and processes and helping out whenever necessary
•         A passion for the outdoors, creating production and living our values preferred
•         Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals.
•         Consolidates information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisions.
•         Executes effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress toward goals.
•         Challenges the status quo, champions change and influences others to change.
•         Ability to travel domestically and internationally
•         5+ years traveling and working with foreign manufactures. Time in Asia preferred
•         Strong understanding of the working methods and cultural norms of source countries preferred

ARTICLE 23-A, Section 753

§753. Factors to be considered concerning a previous criminal conviction; presumption.

1. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall consider the following factors:

(a) The public policy of this state, as expressed in this act, to encourage the licensure and employment of persons previously convicted of one or more criminal offenses.

(b) The specific duties and responsibilities necessarily related to the license or employment sought or held by the person.

(c) The bearing, if any, the criminal offense or offenses for which the person was previously convicted will have on his fitness or ability to perform one or more such duties or responsibilities.

(d) The time which has elapsed since the occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(e) The age of the person at the time of occurrence of the criminal offense or offenses.

(f) The seriousness of the offense or offenses.

(g) Any information produced by the person, or produced on his behalf, in regard to his rehabilitation and good conduct.

(h) The legitimate interest of the public agency or private employer in protecting property, and the safety and welfare of specific individuals or the general public.

2. In making a determination pursuant to section seven hundred fifty-two of this chapter, the public agency or private employer shall also give consideration to a certificate of relief from disabilities or a certificate of good conduct issued to the applicant, which certificate shall create a presumption of rehabilitation in regard to the offense or offenses specified therein.
